Atsuro Tsutsumi joined UNU-IIGH in February 2012 as a Research Fellow for the Newly Emerging, Re-emerging and Non-Communicable Diseases. He was a former Programme Coordinator with JICA China Office based in Chengdu, China where his priority task was to establish and manage mental health and psychosocial support programmes in China. His future research focuses on migrant and health and well-being, specifically mental well-being of migrant people and future development priorities. Prior to his tenure with JICA, he had spent a number of years in mental-health related institutes in Japan as a researcher. He is no stranger to the UN system as he had also served the WHO as well as UNU in the past. Dr Atsuro holds both Masters and PhD in Health Sciences majoring in Global Public Health from the University of Tokyo, Japan.
