UNU-GCM is pleased to announce that Doctor Pietro Bartolo will give our 2017 Annual Guest Lecture on Saturday, November 18th, at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, Barcelona.
Let’s not think of them as clandestine migrants
Doctor Bartolo has overseen the medical care of over 250,000 migrants who have arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa since the 1990s. As well as saving many lives, he has also learned of the stories behind those lives. In this year’s Guest Lecture he will share with us these experiences.
During the event there will be a poetry reading by Dominic Hand, winner of the prestigious 2017 Newdigate Prize in the UK, of specially commissioned work. Additionally, guests will be able to explore ‘Hopeful Journeys’, a photography exhibition by the visual anthropologist and photographer, Tatiana Diniz, based on life stories collected as part of a UNU-GCM project about migration around the Mediterranean.
More information is available in the Related Files tab.
Simultaneous translation from Italian to English, Spanish and Catalan will be provided. For those unable to attend live streaming will be available in English at gcm.unu.edu
