This working paper, by PhD fellow Craig Loschmann, Dr. Katie Kuschminder and Dr. Melissa Siegel is one of a series of occasional papers produced as part of the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s Irregular Migration Research Programme (Research Programme). The study explores irregular migration from the specific (post-) conflict environment of Afghanistan by sketching a descriptive profile of irregular migrants, and empirically modelling the determinants of irregular migration. Ultimately, this paper offers myriad insights about the drivers and decision-making of irregular migrants from Afghanistan.
